Just when it looked like Vijay Singh would cruise to another Buick Open victory, Tiger Woods made the final round interesting. Woods made a late surge from eight shots down Sunday, but his 6-under 66 wasn't enough to complete the comeback. Singh closed with a 70 and came away with a four-stroke victory. |

As Tiger Woods sank a birdie putt at No. 17, he cupped his left ear toward the gallery, asking for louder applause as he tried to crank up the volume and heat on Vijay Singh. The 17-footer brought Woods within two strokes of Singh, and anybody else might have been rattled by Woods' 6-under-par run on the back nine. But not Singh. |
Singh wins Buick Open by four shots over Woods

Vijay Singh followed up three spectacular rounds with an average one and it was enough to hold off a surging Tiger Woods and win the Buick Open on Sunday. Singh closed with a final-round 70 for a four-stroke victory and a 24-under 264 total. Woods, who started eight shots back, tied for second after vaulting into contention with six birdies and an eagle in an nine-hole stretch. |
